If you listen to the FDNY radio transmissions, chief Pfeiffer (B1) made the report immediately for a 2 alarm response, and then while enroute, made the call for the 3rd alarm. Then as senior chiefs were getting on scene, they called for the 4th, and 5th alarms just for tower 1. Then after the second jet hit tower 2, another 5th alarm status was called. Based on the transmissions, before tower 2 collapsed, they had 3 5th alarms in for this incident, and were working on a 4th 5 alarm status. They had every available piece of apparatus, and every possible human resource there. They did put off duty personnel on recall .

Gen Xer here. I think this show was a brilliant summative series produced in the early 70's. I remember seeing this on a late-night TV re-run as a kid in the mid-80s. Parts of it seriously frightened me - that plane crashing toward the camera in slow motion left an indelible mark on my psyche, and those warped synthesizers on the soundtrack sounded seriously evil, but I loved it! I miss weirdo TV from back in the day! Thanks for posting this.

According to Peter, this was the first time since about 1985(20 years before 2005) that he smoked cigarettes. Then stopped again before his death.

It was during the days of apartheid and because of sanctions we were not allowed to listen to the music. The whole office was gathered around the TV and no work was done that day.
